All noise measurements were made normal to the east face of the shaft at a distance of 10m from the center of the shaft, and a height of 1.2m from the ground.
Background noise was dominated by traffic noise from a nearby dual carriageway (between 500m and 750m behind the shaft) and by the noise of bells worn by cows in the adjacent field (to the right of the shaft).
The peak noise level was occasionally dominated by a high frequency screech/squeal possibly caused by lateral contact between the train wheels and track. Flow noise could not be detected from the measurement position.
